What is “Web 2.0”?

"Web 2.0 is a term often applied to a perceived ongoing transition of the World Wide Web from a collection of websites to a full-fledged computing platform serving web applications to end users. Ultimately Web 2.0 services are expected to replace desktop computing applications for many purposes"

I was recently trying to brush up on my understanding and thoughts about "Web 2.0" a long with whatever is the latest and greatest on the topic.

The best overall links I came across I have listed below.

Social networking and web 2.0 website lists:

Descriptions:

Lists of good example sites:

Design:
Some will argue that Web 2.0 has nothing to do with DESIGN, however I would have to disagree.  Web 2.0 is not just about technology and social networking, syndication and interaction....  but also design. Design of "web 2.0" would seem to fall under "Characteristics of web 2.0" per wikipedia and other user definitions and opinion.

"A rich, interactive, user-friendly interface based on Ajax or similar frameworks."

"Curvy corners, big text, lots of gradients"
