EmailHere are just a few of common thoughts when it comes to domain names these days:
"Is games2423423dsfs324121csfd-4312321312.com still available?"
"All the good domain names are taken!"
"Domain squatters die!"
"I tried to renew my domain name but someone else did, they have no use for it”
“I did not want to pay the redemption fee so I though I would wait until it expired and register it again but now some else grabbed it”
“I was searching for a new domain name, and one that was available an hour ago is now registered, is someone spying on my searches?”
Etc etc etc etc etc.
There are a number of varied complaints regarding the domain name business these days and it is quite disappointing.
I will admit, domain squatters upset me from time to time but in all honesty if I could make the kind of money they do for my family, I would do the same.
There are also many great domain traders out there too, completely legit, who do a lot of scouting and trading and make much investment of time and money to come out on top. Good for them.
However, Kenyatech and activities by characters like Sigmund Solares on the other hand seem completely deceptive and annoying. Buildings full of Koreans with high tech equipment , big budgets and 24hour domain catching seems unfair. ‘Whois’ / registrar corruption is wide spread and undetected, it is domain kiting / domain tasting should be criminal and those involved locked up.
So far, not even Godaddy.com can do anything about it. See and article here from Bob Parsons on the topic: http://www.bobparsons.com/MayKiting.html
“35 million names registered in May. Only 8% of registrations were paid. 32 million were part of a scam. It's called "domain kiting."
.... but what can you do right? I have some secrets I'll be sharing in an upcoming report if time permits but the fact remains the real world is shady and so will it be online.
MFA and other garbage sites, flakey meta search engines and indexes, domain parking, domain squatters, domain kiting, domain tasting, scraping / scraped sites, viral marketers, etc etc, this activity is everywhere and not going anywhere.
It's hard for us regular folks to complete with engineers, early dotcom gurus, and corrupt registrars etc. who have taken advantage of (exploited) domain name real estate. It is very hard... most of us just don't have the budget, networks or tools to compete. Today's Internet is run by the people that do have those resources and early background.
We are living in a critical and historic time at the beginning of an era where worldwide free trade via the Internet and Ecommerce will change our world, the problem is that at all levels and all corners the “Internet” is partially rigged. You just need to play harder and find you your place in matrix!
More on Kenyatech, Sigmund Solares, registrar corruption and much more domain name BS coming soon, so stay tuned.
UPDATE:
Here are some companies to beware of. NOLDC, along with several other companies (directNIC, Domain Contender, alternativeidentity.com, Zipa L.L.C., KenyaTech), all reported to be owned by Intercosmos, which is run by Sigmund Solares.
Some interesting links:
Tracing the links between companies.
A site keeping an eye on KenyaTech (Including a forum with some posts that apparently come from Sigmund himself).
This guy is organizing a lawsuit against NOLDC.
And here's a story about them squatting a domain dedicated to a murdered child
