I came across a suggestion in the Subdreamer.com forum that was mentioning ideas / examples surrounding "TAGS". A forum member abcohen, who is notorious for discovering really neat tips and tricks and details beyond the obvious brought up a fact that after browsing a ton of sites, he noticed the widespread use in news / article systems of a sweet feature called "keywording" or "tagging" articles.

He is absolutely right!

It is a sweet feature and it is becoming more and more popular and for a reason!

Great idea.

I love it in fact. Enhancing the news system with more optional features pushing towards syndication and social bookmarking. Heck, while we're at it, why don't we look at everything that might be a good idea for the news system. Here is a quick look at SD2.3 and where perhaps someday it could go.

CURRENT NEWS/ ARTICLE FEATURES:
-categories
-email article
-print article
-pagination
-discuss article (forum)
-commenting
-?

NEW FEATURES:
-multiple assigned categories
-related articles
-article tags (ie. flickr, del.ic.ious, digg, etc)
-social bookmarking optins
-"my favorite" articles
-"to read list"
-article ratings
-sticky arcticles
-export PDF, OOo XML, RTF
-auto article submission / authoring system with/ "report article" feature
-autolinking text keywords (glossary / advertising)
-what else??? hmm I know there is MORE!

Even some blogging functionality would be excellent. What seems to be happening is that CMS's are evolving into blogs, & blogs into CMS's. We see wordpress fans looking for CMS features and we see users of CMS's such as Subdreamer looking for blog/syndication/social software functionality. Subdreamer or any CMS period seems to have the advantage here in terms of ability to evolve. Why hack your wordpress index.php beyond recognition? Why hack your desired website functions into a blog just because you want to keep a diary? We can't deny that blogging, tagging, and all this interactive/social web hype is not without reason, it makes a lot of sense and the benefits are enourmous, but we cannot deny that a CMS that can handle a portal, community, content, and a blog/diary with ALL the digital bells and whistles is what we really want! Some might argue that they want something simple and only what they need and that is it,,,,, well I've heard that before, and shortly after I heard them crying for MORE!

Ultimately, the web application with the most functionality, interactivity and syndication will be the CMS of the future!

Subdreamer would have a lot to gain by jumping on this bandwagon and beocming the first hybrid CMS. I'm all for it of course but won't expect miracles overnight. That's why I'm a 'Subdreamer'!
